About

Abigail Biles

I graduated from Agnes Scott College in 2017 with a BA in English Literature. Throughout my time at ASC, I worked as a newspaper editor, academic journal editor, and writing tutor, but it wasn’t until 2022 when I joined a local writing group that I realized my true passion and skill was in helping others find their voices in story. I’ve trained and studied extensively since then to develop a professional, helpful, and supportive editing style that I’m proud of. I’m also a writer in my free time, so I know every stage of the creative process, from initial spark to completed drafts, including the Pit of Despair. Now, I work to help you climb out of the Pit of Despair and celebrate the victory that writing a novel truly is.

Editing Philosophy

Let’s revise what editing means. Here is what editing is NOT:

  • Changing your story to fit my ideas
  • Censoring your work
  • Punctuation, grammar, or spell check
  • Ghost-writing
  • Taking the teeth out your story
  • Molding your story to meet the market
  • Improving the marketability of your novel

As your editor, I am here to work for you. That means I respect your ideas, support your vision, and help you create the story you want to tell. Sometimes, these things are easier said than done, so it’s my job to come in as an objective outsider to help you refine your craft, clarify your vision, and create the story you dream of telling.

That said, I’m not going to just dot some i’s and give you a big pat on the back while collecting my check. I believe in the power of constructive criticism and exploratory questioning to help tease out work that is authentic, meaningful, and satisfying to you.

Whether you’re in the midst of a first draft and questioning if you have told the story you wanted, or if you’re in the late stages and wanting to be sure your story really lands, I can help develop your novel into the story you always wanted it to be.
